Procedure

p-Cyanophenacyl bromide (29.8 g, 0.138 mole) and p-bromoaniline (47.13 g, 0.266 mole) were combined with 53.2 g of absolute ethanol and stirred 16 hours. The solution was then diluted with ether and the resulting slurry filtered. The filter cake was repulped in 500 ml ether, filtered, repulped in 400 ml acetone and again filtered to yield title product: 17.14 g (40.9%); m.p. 154°-157°.
