Reaction Steps
Employing a procedure similar to that described in Example 1, part A above, 13.3 g of 2-butoxy-4-diethylaminobenzaldehyde and 9.7 g of m-dimethylaminobenzoic acid were refluxed in acetic anhydride to obtain 3-(2-butoxy-4-diethylaminophenyl)-6-dimethylaminophthalide (Formula I: R=CH3 ; X=Z=H; Y=2-C4H9O-4-(C2H5)2NC6H3) as a tarry residue.
