Procedure

Added to 300 mg (0.83 mmol) of the 2-(4-benzylpiperazino)-6-ethyl-8-methylpyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine-5(6H)-one obtained in Referential Example 11 were 6 ml of ethanol, 2 ml of acetic acid and 30 mg of 10% Pd-C. The resultant mixture was stirred at 45° C. for 3.5 hours in a hydrogen atmosphere. The Pd-C was removed from the reaction mixture, followed by concentration under reduced pressure. The concentrate was added with 20 ml of water, to which potassium carbonate was added until no foams were developed. The resultant mixture was extracted three times with 50 ml of chloroform. The chloroform layer was dried with sodium sulfate and then concentrated under reduced pressure, thereby obtaining 200 mg of 6-ethyl-8-methyl-2-piperazinopyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine-5(6H)-one as colorless crystals (yield: 88%).
