To 1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate) (1) (1.06 g, 3.00 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in H2O (9.0 mL) at 23° C. was added ammonium hexafluorophosphate (2.93 g, 18.0 mmol, 6.00 equiv). After stirring for 1 h, the suspension was filtered off and washed with H2O (5×5 mL) and Et2O (10 mL) to afford 1.43 g of the title compound as a colorless solid (quantitative yield).
