6,7-Dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-3-amine (D) (250 mg, 1.86 mmol) was dissolved in acetonitrile. The reaction mixture was added pyridine (0.18 mL, 2.23 mmol) and phenyl chloroformate (0.26 mL, 2.05 mmol) and stirred at room temperature for 3 h under N2. TLC showed complete consumption of starting material. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic part was washed with water and brine. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude was purified by column chromatography to give phenyl 6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-3-ylcarbamate (E). (372 mg, 78%)
