To a solution of 1H-indole-3-carbonyl chloride (45 mg, 0.25 mmol) in 3 mL of methylene chloride at 0° C. was added (quinuclidin-4-yl)methanol (36 mg, 0.25 mmol) in 2 mL of methylene chloride. The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The solvent was evaporated and water (10 mL) was added. The water layer was basified to pH 12 using 10% aqueous potassium hydroxide and extracted three times with 25 mL each of ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated to yield 8 mg of desired product. 1HNMR: 12.02 (bs, 1H); 8.13 (d, 1H); 7.9 (m, 1H); 7.42 (m, 1H); 7.18 (m, 2H); 4.3 (bs, 2H); 3.03 (m, 6H); 1.75 (m, 6H). MS (m/e): 285.
