Procedure

To a suspension of methyl 2-thioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazoline-7-carboxylate (110 mg, 0.5 mmol) in anhydrous EtOH (5 mL) was added MeI (0.125 mL, 2 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at reflux for 1 hr. After cooling, the solid was isolated by filtration to afford methyl 2-(methylthio)-3,4-dihydroquinazoline-7-carboxylate (100 mg).
