Procedure

0.06 mol (3.9 g) of 85% pure potassium hydroxide pellets is dissolved in 60 ml of ethylene glycol on a boiling water bath. 0.03 mol (5.9 g) of 2-methylamino-4,5-methylenedioxy-1-nitrobenzene, prepared according to Example 3, is added with stirring in the course of 5 minutes.
