1-[(2-Dimethylaminoethyl)aminocarbonyl]-5,6-dimethyl-9-hydroxy-10-allyl-6H-pyrido[4,3-b]carbazole ##STR25## 2 g of 1-ethoxycarbonyl-5,6-dimethyl-9-allyloxy-6H-pyrido[4,3-b]carbazole are dissolved in 80 ml of 1,2-dichlorobenzene, and the solution is refluxed for 10 hours. The mixture is cooled and precipitation is observed. The precipitate is suction-filtered and chromatographed on silica using as eluant first dichloromethane and then a dichloromethane/ethanol mixture. 1.27 g of 1-ethoxycarbonyl-5,6-dimethyl-9-hydroxy-10-allyl-6H-pyrido[4,3-b]carbazole are obtained.
