2-Mercapto-1H-benzimidazole (10 g) and 2-chloromethyl-4-(3-chloropropylthio)-3-methoxypyridine hydrochloride (1 equivalent) are stirred at 80° C. for 5 h in 150 ml of isopropanol and 15 ml of water, the mixture is cooled, and the precipitated solid is filtered off and recrystallized from isopropanol/water. The title compound is obtained as a pale brown powder; m.p. 117-119° C. (dec.); yield: 67% of theory.
