41.9 g of ethyl 2-amino-1,4-dihydro-6-methyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-5-(11-bromo-1-oxo-undecyl)pyridine-3-carboxylate are dissolved in 300 ml of dichloromethane and 137 g of manganese dioxide are added. The mixture is stirred at RT for 20 h, then filtered off through Celite and the filtrate is washed with water. The oil remaining after concentration of the filtrate crystallizes on standing or is seeded. It is triturated with diisopropyl ether and filtered off with suction. 23.2 g of the title compound of m.p. 73-74° C. are obtained.
