Reaction Steps
A methanol solution (50 ml) of 4-2 (2.6 g, 8.4 mmol) and 1 N NaOH (25.2 mL, 25.2 mmol) was stirred under ambient conditions for 18 h. The reaction was concentrated and the residue acidifed with 1 M NaHSO4 solution to provide 4-3 as a colorless solid.
