Procedure

To a solution of 0.444 g (0.88 lmmol) of the product of Example 11 in 20 mL of MeOH/THF (1:1) was added 9.3 mL 1N NaOH and the mixture heated at reflux for 18 h. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and the organic removed in vacuo. The remaining solution was acidified with 10% HCl and extracted with EtOAc. The extract was washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue provided 0.364 g (84%) of the desired carboxylic acid as a white solid after trturation with ether. CI Mass Spec: 490 (M+H).
