To a solution of 1.0 g (2.985 mmol) of the product of Example 3 in 100 mL of carbon tetrachloride was added 0.20 g of dibenzoyl peroxide and 1.168 g (6.568 mmol) of N-bromosuccinimide. The resulting mixture was refluxed for 18 h, cooled, washed with sodium bisulfite solution and water, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was diluted with 10 mL of THF and 10 mL of 1N sodium hydroxide solution and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was then acidified with 5% HCl and extracted with ether. The organics were dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was triturated with ether to provide 0.477 g (47%) of the product as a white solid. Electrospray Mass Spec: 350.1 (M+H)+.
