Reaction Steps
A solution of 25 g of 4-[N'-methyl-N'-(3,5-bistrifluoromethyl-benzoyl)-amino]-5-(4-chloro-phenyl)-pentanoic acid ethyl ester and 18 g of lithium hydroxide monohydrate in 120 ml of THF/methanol/water 3:3:1 is stirred at room temperature for 4 hours and then 200 ml of water and 1N hydrochloric acid are added (pH value approx. 2). The mixture is extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The combined organic phases are washed with water and saturated NaCl solution, dried (magnesium sulfate) and concentrated by evaporation. The residue is recrystallised from diethyl ether/petroleum ether. In this way the title compound is obtained in the form of white crystals (m.p. 125-127°).
