Reaction Steps
15 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide solution are added to a solution of 5.0 g (9.1 mmol) of 4-[N-(3,5-bistrifluoromethyl-benzoyl)-N-methyl-amino]-5,5-diphenyl-pent-2-enoic acid ethyl ester in 60 ml of 2:1 tetrahydrofuran/methanol at room temperature. After stirring for 5 h, the reaction mixture is concentrated, diluted with water, and then acidified with ice-cold 2N hydrochloric acid solution. The resulting precipitate is filtered, washed with water and a small amount of hexanes, and then dried overnight under vacuum at 50° C. to give the title compound as a white solid. TLC: methylene chloride/methanol (95:5) Rf =0.08.
