Reaction Steps
A methanol solution (50 mL) of 4-5 (1.3 g, 4.0 mmol) and 1N NaOH (20 mL, 20 mmol) was stirred at 50° C. for 4 h. The reaction was concentrated and the residue acidified with 1M NaHSO4 solution to provide 4-6 as a beige colored solid.
