A mixture of 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-((6-methoxypyridin-3-yl)carbonyl)hydrazine carboxamide (550 mg, 1.74 mmol) in 10% sodium hydroxide solution (4 mL)-ethanol (2 mL) was heated at 60° C. for 1 hour. After cooling, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. 2N-HCl was added to the residue and the mixture was adjusted pH to ca. 4. A generated precipitate was isolated by filtration, washed with water, dried in vacuo to give 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-(6-methoxypridin-3-yl)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ol (280 mg, 54% yield).
