Reaction Steps
180 mg (0.4 mmol) of methyl 2-(3′-{[methyl-(1-phenylmethanoyl)amino]methyl}biphenyl-4-ylmethyl)malonamate (prepared in Example 16(d)) in 2 ml of methanol, 2 ml of tetrahydrofuran and 250 μl (0.5 mmol) of aqueous 2N sodium hydroxide solution are introduced [lacuna]. The reaction medium is stirred at room temperature for 36 hours, acidified to pH 3 with hydrochloric acid solution and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase is dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated. 80 mg (46%) of the desired product, with a melting point of 117° C., are obtained.
