8-Cyclopentyl-6-methyl-2-methylsulfanyl-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one (2.56 g, 9.30 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (17 mL) and methanol (17 mL) to which 2-benzenesulfonyl-3-phenyl-oxaziridine was added and the reaction mixture was stirred for 16 hours. The solvent was removed and diethyl ether added. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration to give 8-cyclopentyl-2-methanesulfinyl-6-methyl-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one as a white solid (2.30 g, 84.8%). 1H NMR δ (400 MHz, CDCl3) 8.85 (s, 1H), 7.54 (s, 1H), 5.99, (m, 1H), 2.95 (s, 3H), 2.27 (d, J=1.2 Hz, 3H), 2.24 (m, 2H), 2.13 (m, 2H), 1.94 (m, 2H), 1.70 (m, 2H).
