1-(6-chloro-3-methoxy-1-trityl-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]pyridin-4-yl)ethanol (38B, 130 mg, 0.277 mmol) was taken up in DCM (2.87 ml) and Dess-Martin periodinane (141 mg, 0.332 mmol) was added. The reaction was allowed to stir at rt for 1 hr. The reaction was diluted with DCM (8 ml) and 1N NaOH was added (15 ml) and the mixture was allowed to stir. The organic phase was separated and the aqueous was washed with DCM (20 ml×3). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give 1-(6-chloro-3-methoxy-1-trityl-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]pyridin-4-yl)ethanone (Intermediate 39B). The products were carried forward without purification. MS: [M+H]+ m/z 468.
