To a solution of the compound from Step 1 (R)-2-(1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-piperidin-3-ylamino)-3-methylpyridine 1-oxide (760 mg, 1.44 mmol) in acetonitrile (15 mL) was added tetrahydroxydiboron (387 mg, 4.32 mmol) at room temperature. The reaction was stirred at 60° C. overnight. The resulting mixture was treated with water then extracted with EtOAc (3×30 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound (760 mg) as a white gum. This material was used in the next step without further purification.
