Reaction Steps
[1,1′-Biphenyl]-3,5-dicarbaldehyde (3.62 g, 17.24 mmol) and MeOH (100 mL) were added to a round-bottom flask. To the solution was added tert-butyl (3-((3-aminopropyl)amino)propyl)carbamate (7.96 g, 34.4 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 24 h. Sodium borohydride (2.62 g, 69.0 mmol) was added, and the mixture was stirred for 1 h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to afford a white solid. Aqueous NaOH (10%, 200 mL) was added, and the solution was extracted with EtOAc (200 mL). The organic layer was separated, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (200 mL). The organic layers were combined, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the desired product as a clear oil that was used without further purification.
