2-(2-(3-Bromophenyl)-2-oxoethyl)-5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione (2.77 g, 8.2 mmol) and 2,4-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,2,4-dithiadiphosphetane-2,4-disulfide (Lawesson's reagent) (2.29 g, 5.4 mmol) were refluxed in toluene (100 mL) for 6 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and purified on silica gel using a gradient elution of 0-10% ethyl acetate in 40-60 petroleum ether to afford the title compound (0.6 g, 22%).
