Procedure

To a stirred solution of thiazole-2-carbonitrile (1.5 g, 14 mmol) in 5 mL of dry MeOH was added dropwise a solution of sodium methoxide (0.74 g, 14 mmol) in 10 mL of dry methanol. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature until the disappearance of starting material. After that, ammonium chloride (1.5 g, 28 mmol) was added in one portion and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight. The undissolved material was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to afford thiazole-2-carboxamidine hydrochloride (Compound A) as a grey solid which was used directly in the next step without further purification. MS: calc'd 128 (MH+), measured 128 (MH+).
