A solution of 3′-{-2-[1-(ethoxycarbonyl)-2-oxopropylidene]hydrazino}-2′-methoxybiphenyl-3-carboxylic acid (3.5 g) prepared as in Example 7, and 3,4-dimethylphenylhydrazine hydrochloride (1.72 g) and sodium acetate(0.9 g) in glacial acetic acid (120 mL) was stirred and heated to about reflux temperature for about 4 hours. The mixture was cooled to about room temperature and stirred for about 1 hour. It was filtered, washed with water (25 mL) and dried in an oven at about 55° C. to about 60° C. for about 12 hours to an orange solid.
