Reaction Steps

4-[2-Cyanoethyl]-4'-methoxy-biphenyl was prepared from 4-[2-chloroethyl]-4'-methoxy-biphenyl (see Example A) by boiling with potassium cyanide in aqueous ethanol for 78 hours. Yield: 52% of theory; m.p. 105°-107° C.
