Piv-Cl (0.12 ml, 1.0 mmol) and pyridine (0.03 ml, 0.4 mmol) were added to a solution of 1,7-Heptanediol (Compound 26-1, 0.28 ml, 2.0 mmol) in CHCl3 (2 ml) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred for one day. H2O was added to the reaction solution, the organic layer was then separated, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layer was washed with a saturated aqueous NaCl solution, and was dried over Na2SO4. After evaporation of the solvent, the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (Hexane:EtOAc=3:1) to yield 7-hydroxyheptyl pivalate (147 mg, 68%).
