Reaction Steps
Tetralin (1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene) reacts quantitatively) with water under the standard condition to give 22% benzene, 6% toluene, 67% naphthalene, and the rest to gases. The exit gas composition was 77% H2, 19% CO2, 3% CO, and 2% CH4. By raising the reaction temperature to 550° C., the yield of benzene increases to 49%, while the amount of naphthalene decreases to 10%.
