6.70 g (20.6 mmol) of caesium carbonate are added to a solution of 3.00 g (20.7 mmol) of 7-hydroxyisoquinoline and 4.33 g (20.7 mmol) of ethyl 2-bromopentanoate in 30 ml of acetonitrile, and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The reaction mixture is filtered, and the filtrate is evaporated, giving ethyl 2-(isoquinolin-7-yloxy)-pentanoate as a colourless solid; ESI 274.
