10% Pd/C (900 mg) was added to a solution of compound 1.9a (2.0 g, 4.5 mmol) in EtOAc (150 mL) and the resulting slurry was hydrogenated in a Parr apparatus (50 psi) at 50° C. for 16 h. At this point the reaction was determined to be complete by TLC. The mixture was filtered through a small plug of diatomaceous earth (CELITE®) and the solvent was removed under vacuum, providing compound 2.0a (1.6 g, 80% yield) as a white solid.
