2-(3-Methyl-bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-en-2-yl)-ethanol (16.37 g, 107.53 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (150 ml) and Dess-Martin periodinane in solution in dichloromethane (15%, 536.2 g, 189.7 mmol) was added at room temperature over a 110 minutes period under nitrogen. The mixture was further stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes and was hydrolyzed with aqueous NaOH 5% in an ice-bath, and extracted 3 times with Et2O. The combined organic layers were washed with H2O, brine, dried over Na2SO4, and filtered off. Solvents were removed under reduced pressure to give a crude which was further purified by bulb to bulb distillation under reduced pressure to afford the desired compound (13.468 g, 88% purity) in 83% yield.
