tert-Butyl {4-[(2R,3R)-3-({[2-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-2-yl]methyl}thio)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-oxoazetidin-2-yl]phenoxy}acetate (Method 16) (10.0 g, 15.35 mmol) was dissolved in formic acid (100 mL) at room temperature and stirred for two hours. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure (temperature<30° C.) and the crude oil was purified by flash-chromatography (heptane:acetone:formic acid 6:4:0.01 and then 5:5:0.01) to afford the title compound.
