To a solution of 4-(1-phenyl-1-(3-hydroxy-1-butyn-1-yl)-methylene)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.197 g, 0.577 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (5 mL) was added activated MnO2 (1.125 g) at 0° C. The mixture was allowed to stir for 3 h, at which point no starting material remained. The reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite and the filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound (0.190 g, 97%) as a colorless oil:
