To a solution of 0.196 g (0.461 mmol) of N,N-dimethyl-[6-(4-benzoylbenzoyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrofuro[2,3-c]pyridin-2-ylmethyl]amine hydrochloride in 10 ml of methanol, 70 mg (1.9 mmol) of sodium borohydride was added under ice-cooling, followed by overnight stirring at room temperature. Aqueous sodium hydroxide was added, followed by 3 extractions with dichloromethane. The combined organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate; the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to yield the desired product.
