Reaction Steps

This compound was synthesized from 8-(p-propylphenyl)-7-octenoic acid (1.30 g, 5 mmol) and Pd/BaSO4 (130 mg) by a hydrogenation reaction. Crystallization (petroleum ether) afforded the product (1.25 g, 95%) as white crystals (mp 42-43° C.). IR: 3400-2500, 1705 cm-1 ; 1H-NMR: 0.95 (t, 3 H), 1.45 (m, 12 H), 2.50 (m, 6 H), 7.05 (s, 4 H), 11.40 (bs, 1 H). Anal. Calcd. for C17H26O2 : C, 77.82, H, 9.99%; Found: C, 77.75, H, 10.04%.
