Itaconic anhydride (0.14 g, 1.25 mmol) was added portionwise to a solution of 0.1 g (0.30 mmol) of 6-amino-4-[(3-bromophenyl)amino]-3-quinolinecarbonitrile in 2 mL of ethyl acetate under N2. After stirring at room temperature overnight, the reaction solution was added into ice water and hexane. The product was collected, washed with water, ether and hexane, and dried in vacuo to give 0.09 g (68%) of yellowish brown solid; ESMS m/z 451.2 (M+H+).
