Reaction Steps

A mixture of 4-ethoxycarbonylmethoxy-8-nitroquinoline (404 mg) and 10% palladium on carbon in ethanol (5 ml) and dioxane (5 ml) was stirred for 5 hours at ambient temperature under hydrogen atmosphere. Insoluble material was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was pulverized with diethyl ether to give 8-amino-4-(ethoxycarbonylmethoxy)quinoline (234 mg).
