Procedure

A suspension of 8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-4-(2,6-dichlorobenzoyloxy)-3-methoxymethylquinoline (4.88 g) in ethanol (100 ml) and 1N sodium hydroxide solution (30 ml) was stirred for 2 hours at 90° C. After evaporation, the residue was diluted with water, and the solution was neutralized with 1N hydrochloric acid. The resulting precipitates were collected by filtration and washed with water and diethyl ether to give 8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-1,4-dihydro-3-methoxymethyl-4-oxoquinoline (3.41 g) as white powder.
