Procedure
7-Chloro-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-1-propylamino-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid [VI; lower-alkyl=(CH2)2CH3 ] was prepared from 10.5 g of ethyl 7-chloro-6-fluoro-5-[(formyl)propylamino]-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylate (Preparation 3C) and 4.4 g of 85% potassium hydroxide in ethanol solution according to the procedure described above in Preparation 4B. There was obtained 5.7 g of product in the form of its potassium salt hemihydrate, m.p. 267° C. (decompn.).
