Procedure

A mixture of 1.0 g. of methyl N-[4-cyano-1-methyl-3-(1-methyl-5-nitro-2-imidazolyl)pyrazol-5-yl]formimidate, 1 ml. of methyl hydrazine, and 10 ml. of ethanol was stirred at ambient room temperature for about 1 hour. The reaction product mixture was filtered. The solid which was recovered was recrystallized from ethanol to yield product in the form of yellow needles having a melting point of about 232°-234° C. The product was identified by NMR spectrum and elemental analyses as N-[4-cyano-1-methyl-3-(1-methyl-5-nitroimidazol-2-yl)pyrazol-5-yl]formimidic acid, 2-methyl hydrazide.
