Following a procedure similar to that described above in part A of this example except that 2,4-bis(6-chloro-2-phenyl-3-indolyl)-4-oxobutanoic acid is used in place of 2,4-bis(1-n-propyl-2-methyl-3-indolyl)-4-oxobutanoic acid and 6-chloro-2-phenylindole is used instead of 1-n-propyl-2-methylindole, there is obtained 3,5,5-tris(6-chloro-2-phenyl-3-indolyl)-2(5H)-furanone (Formula III: R=R2 =H; R1 =R3 =C6H5 ; Y=Y1 =6-Cl).
