Procedure
2-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrazolo[1,5-C]quinazolin-5(6H)-one (3.3 g, 0.0153 mole) is suspended in 250 ml of 97-100% formic acid and refluxed overnight under nitrogen. The solution is stripped to dryness and the solid is recrystallized from dioxane to give 2.8 g (75% yield) of analytically pure title compound, m.p. 190°-192°.
