Methyl (R)-4-(1-acetamidoethyl)-3-nitrobenzoate (1 g) was stirred in a stream of hydrogen at room temperature for 3 hours using 10% palladium hydroxide carbon (0.3 g) in a methanol (20 ml) solution. After the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give 0.89 g of methyl (R)-3-amino-4-(1-acetamidoethyl)benzoate.
