Procedure
A solution of 7-(3-chlorobenzyl)-3-methylamino-5-propylpyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-4,6(5H,7H)-dione (1.0 g, 2.9 mM) and acetic anhydride (1.0 ml, 9.8 mM) in pyridine (15 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 5 hours. The solution was concentrated to dryness and the residue was triturated with water (10 ml). Recrystallization from chloroform/ether gave colorless needles (0.95 g, 85%), m.p. 169°-171° C.
