An ice cold solution of 3.8 g (0.018 mol) of ethyl 2-(1-methylethyl)-5-oxo-1-imidazolidineacetate in 100 ml of methanol was saturated with gaseous ammonia. The solution was stirred at room temperature overnight and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, to give 2-(1-methylethyl)-5-oxo-1-imidazolidineacetamide (3.4 g) as a viscous oil (Rf 0.33; ethyl acetate/methanol 6:4; silica gel plates). Monohydrate of sulphate salt m.p. 64° C. resolidifying with final decomposition at 114°-118° C.
