Illustrative of the invention, N,N-dimethyl-2-benzyl-3-(4-methylmercaptophenoxy)-propylamine oxalate and N,N-dimethyl-2-benzyl-3-(4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-propylamine oxalate at an oral dose of 30 mg/kg p.o. show about 80% and 60% inhibition respectively of 3H-5HT uptake. N-Methyl-2-benzyl-3-(4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-propylamine oxalate gives about a 50% inhibition of 3H-5HT uptake at a dose of 10 mg/kg p.o.
