Reaction Steps

0.75 g (2.7 mmole) of 9,10-difluoro-2,3-dihydro-3-methyl-7-oxo-7H-pyrido[1,2,3-de]-1,4-benzoxazine-6-carboxylic acid, 40 ml acetonitrile, and 0.91 g (0.80 mmole) of N-methyl-3-pyrrolidinemethanamine were refluxed overnight. The solvent was removed at reduced pressure and the residue tititrated with 40 ml of methanol. The precipitate was filtered, washed repeatedly with 95% ethanol and finally with ether until dry to give 0.68 g of 9-fluoro-2,3-dihydro3-methyl-10-[3-[(methylamino)methyl]-1-pyrrolidinyl]-7-oxo-7H-pyrido[1,2,3-de]-1,4-benzoxazine-6-carboxylic acid, mp 235°-237.5° C.
