To 1.0 g (3.7 mmol) of 1-ethyl-6,7,8-trifluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid in 10 ml of acetonitrile was added 0.56 g (3.7 mmol) of 1,8-diazobicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene and 0.44 g (3.7 mmol) of 3-(ethylamino)pyrrolidine. The mixture was refluxed for one hour, kept overnight at room temperature, filtered, and the solid washed with ether to give 0.81 g of 1-ethyl-7-[3-(ethylamino)-1-pyrrolidinyl]-6,8-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid, mp 227°-229° C.
