A solution of crude 8-bromo-N-(2-chlorophenyl)-4,5-dihydrobenzo[b]thieno[2,3-d]oxepine-2-carbohydrazonamide (150 mg) was heated in a sealed vessel with triethyl orthoacetate at 90° C. for 3 h. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and concentrated to give a crude residue that was purified by flash column chromatography (10-100% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to give 272. 1H NMR (dmso-d6, 400 MHz) δ 7.86 (m, 2H), 7.48 (m, 1H), 7.69 (m, 1H), 7.44 (m, 1H), 7.28-7.23 (m, 2H), 6.57 (s, 1H), 4.22 (t, 2H), 3.00 (t, 2H), 2.18 (s, 3H).
